The Savoy in London, after the renovation
A Grade II building, two styles and 263 rooms: what changed in the rooms and what remains of the house.
The Savoy opened in 1889 beside the theater of the same name and has stood on The Strand, on the Thames, ever since. It is a Grade II listed building with two decorative languages: Edwardian and Art Deco.
Its room renovation, designed by G.A Group and unveiled in 2025, reinterprets both styles with new palettes, textures and bespoke furniture. It introduces digital control of lighting and room service, wireless charging, yoga mats in every room and window seats in the River View suites. Some 50 original lamps were kept and fireplaces and cornices restored. The process continues in phases through 2027.
Of the 263 rooms and suites, 162 are Edwardian; the Art Deco ones face The Strand. Categories range from the 27 m² Superior Queen to the 264 m² Royal Suite.
At the table are Savoy Grill, Restaurant 1890 and River Restaurant, by Gordon Ramsay; the American Bar; the Beaufort Wine Bar; and the Gallery, where afternoon tea brings together more than 30 teas.
